Challenge
Understand hurdles faced by teachers in the teacher center, and redesign the experience to increase teachers' activation.
Why did it matter? The number of active courses (courses being used by students) is the metric our sponsors care most about (and pay us for). Teachers unlock student usage and learning outcomes. As a result, creating a seamless experience for teachers is very important for activation.
Background
EVERFI is an educational technology company with the mission to fill the "missing layer of education." EVERFI’s self-paced, interactive courses are used in the K12 classroom setting to teach critical life skills on topics such as financial literacy and mental well-being. These courses, free to teachers and students, are funded by private sponsors like the NFL and Meta, who want to support education in these areas.
Teacher Center, internally known as Homeroom is the platform where teachers assign courses to students and monitor their progress. How easy it is for teachers to get started and assign courses in Homeroom directly correlates to student usage of EVERFI’s courses - the metric sponsors care most about. So a frictionless user experience was a top priority for the business.
Homeroom was initially built in 2008. Since then, the user experiences and its UI had not been updated, and teachers were still presented with pages designed in 2008. It was time to redesign!
