Summary
Challenge: Design a simulation for grade 6 students to explore and understand the concept of weather. Weather is a complicated concept to teach at this grade level.
The app is centered around the concept of an air parcel and its water content and temperature. The energy exchange between the air parcel and its surroundings forms different weather events. The app is comprised of two modes: Parcel Mode which teaches the concept of condensation and energy transfer. Lake Mode which is a more realistic scenario allows students to manipulate factors such as sunlight, size of water bodies, and air pressure.
